David Brechin
Older readers might remember David Brechin, who passed away on 10th May. He would have been well into his 80’s.
David was mainly a fullbore shooter as a member of the East of Scotland club but was also a long-time member at Watsonians along with his brother Kenny (RIP,1995). He often said he only shot smallbore in the winter to keep his eye in for fullbore in the summer: putting himself down a bit – he was an excellent smallbore shooter.
David is undoubtedly the most-capped Watsonian shooter. First capped in 1966, he shot in fullbore teams for Scotland over 100 times and for GB over 10 times. He also represented Hong Kong on several occasions as he had business interests and lived there before the Chinese takeover. He was also an accomplished administrator and team manager for both Scotland and GB teams.
His granddaughter Lilly has kept the family shooting tradition going and recently left George Watson’s, already having made her mark as a promising young smallbore and air rifle shooter.
Davvid’s funeral will take place at Mortonhall Crematorium at 1pm on Thursday 30th May.
